    8/30/26 Sunday $37 2:00 – 4:00
We will work on the fundamental pushing hands drills, application of the form and the Red Boat Style partner drills. Red Boat Drill came from Fuk Yueng who was a master of Southern Style combined Kungfu forms called the Red Boat style, some call Yueng Ch’uan. Taught by Harvey Kurland who studied with him and his top applications student Master David Harris. Pushing hands drills came from Tchoung Ta-tchen who certified Kurland as a Master Teacher, Sifu, of his system. We will work on both methods. Wear long sleeves.

  • San Shou Form, Sections 7 & 8— Partner T’ai chi ch’uan
    10/18/26 Sunday 3:30 – 5:30—$37

Partner t’ai chi ch’uan form, Tchoung version. This form is traced back to Yang Shao-hou (Yáng Shàohóu 楊少侯), who taught Hsiung Yang-ho (Xióng Yǎnghé 熊養和), who in turn taught Tchoung Ta-tchen (Zhōng Dàzhèn 鍾大振). Tchoung taught Harvey Kurland and others his version of the form. Kurland was first introduced to this form by Liang Tsung-ts’ai (Liáng Zōngcái 梁宗才) and later learned another version from Raymond Chung, who studied with Yang Sau-chung (Yáng Shǒuzhōng 楊守中).

Tchoung studied with the famous Hsiung Yang-ho (1886–1984) in Taiwan. Hsiung was a disciple of Yang Shao-hou (1862–1930) and also studied with Yang Chien-hou (Yáng Jiànhóu 楊健侯). This form has several variations and has recently become popular among practitioners of other styles. Kurland will teach the Tchoung partner version of this form.

Please sign up online by Wednesday night, October 14, prior to the workshop to ensure that we have enough participants. More information about this form can be found at taichifist.com/hsiung-yang-hos-tai-chi-san-shou-form/
  • Pushing Hands and Red Boat Applications
    11/15/26 Sunday 3:30 – 5:30 PM—$37

We will introduce the Pushing Hands of Tchoung Ta-tchen. This is also called Sensing Hands and Separate Hands. The intent is to learn the concepts of the art through several Pushing Hands methods. This is not a competition class.

We will start with single-hand Pushing Hands and work up to four-hand Pushing Hands. The basic energies will be examined. Some Red Boat applications are from Fuk Yueng (Fú Yǒng 福永), who was a Red Boat performer and martial artist. We will work on the partner drills as well as applications of t’ai chi ch’uan.

Tchoung taught this form directly to Harvey Kurland, who will teach this workshop. We expect to complete the first section of the form.
